2 CONC message for Laura  Kissinger with all sorts of photos of her around the 
2 CONC mat and that got me looking at photos.  There are not a whole lot of Mom 
2 CONC as she always said she didn't want a picture taken  (esp. when she had to 
2 CONC wear glasses after cataract operations...they were thick) but I will do 
2 CONC my best to get some more pictures of all the family that are missing in 
2 CONC the history you have so diligently created.  Thank you  for being such a 
2 CONC good researcher and historian for the Hoyt family.

2 CONT MEDICAL: I was away for a few weeks this summer, with Scott and family, 
2 CONC and also visiting a friend in South Haven for 2 days.  Lisa and her boys 
2 CONC were here two weeks along with Karen Heuer and her three and Mark Ver 
2 CONC Bryck and his boy for one night, and Kathy with her two for 3 days, so it 
2 CONC was almost an all female (adult) reunion.  the guys were working.  
2 CONC Needless to say I wasn't doing much with e-mail or photos. Then my old 
2 CONC computer gave up and I had to wait for the new one to come.  Now I have a 
2 CONC book "Windows XP for Dummies" and hope to learn more about how to work 
2 CONC this
2 CONT  machine.  When you use terms that I don't understand then I can access 
2 CONC what you instruct the viewer to do.  So one of these winter days, I'll 
2 CONC put my focus on computer, much as I hate to..I'd much rather write than 
2 CONC type e-mails.  Well, I have to go and get dressed to go out.  I am pretty 
2 CONC well, although I have been diagnosed with diabetes (Grandpa Hoyt had type 
2 CONC I) so I am learning to eat quite differently than before but it is a 
2 CONC blessing in disguise in some aspects (not many).  The kids are fine as 
2 CONC are the grandchidren, thank goodness.  I am so glad that you have 
2 CONC grandchildren close by and can enjoy activities with them.  Have a great

2 CONC The Atlas Mill still survives today, 2006, as the second oldest business 
2 CONC still doing business in MI in a State, special commendation in 2000. 
2 CONT *Note: Bryan, Williams County, OH; Grist Mill could have been the Cyrus 
2 CONC S. Bowman grist mill, about 1903 for Hugh P. Hoyt to be head operator for

2 CONC handed over the Family History information in the 1970's. I now live in 
2 CONC Rockford, MI, NE of Grand Rapids, MI. I am 57 years old.  I don't know 
2 CONC how much info & photos you have of the Hoyt-Fell family. I do not have 
2 CONC much of the Fell side, so I'm  looking to expand your namesake side of 
2 CONC the Family History.  I routinely, receive parcels of documents and photos 
2 CONC from all other parts of my Family History, scan and copy them, then mail 
2 CONC them back to the sender within a day or 2, or you send them to me via 
2 CONC e-mail, but I perfer to have the image scanned so that I may have a 
2 CONC higher resolution at home to preserve the digital images & copies, then 
2 CONC what the internet can maximum send to me, at 72 dpi resolution.

2 CONT always referred to Grandma as "Bonnie" rather than "Bessie."  It was

2 CONT Barbara (Sis) couldn't say "Bessie" when she was very small...it came out

2 CONT "Bonnie" and it just stuck forever.

1 NOTE OCCUPATION: Earnest E. Hoyt, a miller, in Pinkney MI, Tecumseh at Hayden 
2 CONC Flour Mill, along with brother Hugh P. Hoyt, then both moved to Clinton, 
2 CONC in 1910, to operate as head millers and buy the Atlas Mill in 1911, and 
2 CONC live and work in Clinton MI, until there deaths. E. E. Hoyt died in an 
2 CONC accident at the mill, having being to close to a moving belt, grabbing 
2 CONC his clothes and threw him against the wall and killing him instantly, in 
2 CONC 1952. Brother, Hugh P. Hoyt, owner of the mill, within 11 months, died a

2 CONC is a movie out on HBO now made about Dr. Blalock from Johns Hopkins, of

2 CONT School was renamed E. E. Fell Junior High
2 CONT School and the Holland Board of Education
2 CONT said it was paying fitting tribute to a man
2 CONT whose influence will outlast even the struc-
2 CONT ture that memorializes his achievements"
2 CONT Egbert E Fell spent 35 years as Holland
2 CONT superintendent of schools. He arrived in
2 CONT 1910 and retired in 1945. In 1945, Hope
2 CONT College honored him with an honorary
2 CONT degree of doctor of laws. This degree gave
2 CONT him the right to use the title of "Dr " but
2 CONT Fell never made an issue of the degree and
2 CONT was known to most Holland residents as
2 CONT plain "'Mister".
2 CONT Because Fell was a tall, distinguished look-
2 CONT ing, white haired man, he was not only
2 CONT respected by the faculty and staff throughout
2 CONT the system, but by students who 'genuinely
2 CONT looked up to" him as be walked the hallways
2 CONT of the Holland Schools.
2 CONT   During his superintendency, the senior high
2 CONT school building (15th St. & Pine Ave.) junior 
2 CONT high school building (16th St. & River Ave.)
2 CONT and Washington School ( 11th St. and Maple
2 CONT Ave.) were constructed. Washington is the
2 CONT administrative office today, while Jubilee
2 CONT Ministries has purchased the other buildings
2 CONT with plans for renovation.
2 CONT   Born near Ithica and educated in a one-
2 CONT room school in Gratiot County, Fell attended
2 CONT Alma Preparatory School and graduated from
2 CONT Alma College in 1902. He was superintendent
2 CONT of East Taws three years and Caro five years 
2 CONT before arriving in Holland. Spending four
2 CONT summers taking courses, Fell earned his Mas-
2 CONT ters Degree from Columbia University in
2 CONT 1917. Fell promoted the Parent-Teacher Club,
2 CONT started an adult education program, introduced
2 CONT numerous new courses and provided special 
2 CONT classes for crippled children and those with 
2 CONT special needs in vision, hearing, and speech.
2 CONT   In 1935, the Holland Teachers Club presented
2 CONT Him with a life membership in the MEA in
2 CONT "recognition to his service in the Holland 
2 CONT Schools". He served as MEA Fourth District
2 CONT Chairman and MEA president.
2 CONT   At the junior high school renaming ceremony,
2 CONT Junior High School Principal, Miss Bernice 
2 CONT Bishop paid tribute to Fell's "uncanny aptitude
2 CONT 
2 CONT OCCUPATION:   More then 500 people crowded into the
2 CONT Junior High gymnasium to honor the superin-
2 CONT tendent emeritus. A portrait of the 80 year old 
2 CONT Fell was unveiled which hung together with a 
2 CONT plaque in the alcove at the entrance. The occa-
2 CONT sion also marked the symbolic "burning" and
2 CONT last payment on bonds issued back in 1923-24
2 CONT for erecting the building recognized at the time
2 CONT "as one of the most progressive programs in
2 CONT junior highs in Michigan."
2 CONT   In additions to teachers and friends Dr. and
2 CONT Mrs. Fell were surrounded by their three doc-
2 CONT tor sons and wives and grandchildren. All
2 CONT grandchildren were present exception of three
2 CONT grandsons in the armed service.
2 CONT   Fell died June 30, 1958 at age 84. At the Hope
2 CONT Church funeral service, Dr. Marion de Velder
2 CONT Described Fell as a man of stature, distinction,
2 CONT Honest, frank, forthright, one whose interests
2 CONT Lay in high ideals and hard work, subjecting
2 CONT Himself and his people only to the highest 
2 CONT Standards. "His whole life was dedicated to the 
2 CONT cause of education, and he put emphasis on
2 CONT selecting competent teachers, teachers who 
2 CONT like himself regarded education as a calling,
2 CONT a dedication and an art.
2 CONT 
2 CONT OCCUPATION:   Randy Vande Water, retired managing editor 
2 CONT of The Holland Sentinel, is a Holland High 
2 CONT School graduate and has spent several years
2 CONT Probing into aspects of Holland history. He has

2 CONC Olmstead were cousins.

2 CONT Cherry and I just returned from an interesting visit to Deerfield, MA and 
2 CONC Ridgefield, CT.  If you already don't know, Historic Deerfield, is a 
2 CONC recreation of the town as it was rebuilt after the Deerfield raid in 
2 CONC 1704.  It commemorates all the families that were killed or captured by 
2 CONC the French and Indians in that raid.  There is a marble plaque on the 
2 CONC wall in the museum to David Hoyt , his wife Abigail, and children that 
2 CONC were taken captive.  They were marched to Canada and David and his 
2 CONC youngest daughter were killed along the way.  There is a Deerfield 
2 CONC Descendents organization that you can join if you're interested.  You can 
2 CONC find them on the internet.

2 CONT In Ridgefield, we visited Keeler's Tavern Museum, a Ridgefield historic 
2 CONC landmark.  It began as a farmhouse constructed by Benjamin Hoyt, son of 
2 CONC David Hoyt of Deerfield.  The house was begun in 1713 and has been added 
2 CONC on to by Benjamin and others over the years.  The museum is being 
2 CONC maintained by a Keeler Tavern Museum Preservation Society.   The tavern 
2 CONC is in remarkable condition.  You might try looking that up on the 
2 CONC internet also.
2 CONT 
2 CONT I found an article in a newspaper about the history of  Ridgefield.  It 
2 CONC said that the Hoyt Family constructed a mill in the mid-1700's.  That may 
2 CONC be where they learned the trade.
2 CONT 
2 CONT There is a lot of Hoyt history in MA and CT.  It made for an interesting 
2 CONC fall trip.

4 CONC are elders of Presbyterian Churches, and two are deacons, from 1853 to 
4 CONC his death, his birth-day was celebrated by an annual gathering of his 
4 CONC descendants, numbering 50 or 60.

2 CONT    Benjamin Hoyt died in 1896 in Leavenworth Kansas.  Rosina died May 
2 CONC 1886 in Union City, Michigan.  Frances Gertrude Hoyt (Fannie) was born 21 
2 CONC Feb. 1846 and died 11 Dec. 1904 at Hyde Park, Mass.  She had married 
2 CONC Alexander Beethoven Brown and there were 4 children.  Henry Nelson Hoyt, 
2 CONC my great grandfather, was born 28 sept, 1848 in Meridian, NY.  He died 7 
2 CONC Sept 1910 in Wakefield, Mass.  Sara Baldwin Clark Hoyt was born 3 
2 CONC October, 1850 in Union City, Michigan and died 27 Feb. 1923 at Quincy, 
2 CONC Calif.  She was probably visiting her daughter Elizabeth Mary Price, my 
2 CONC grandmother.  She and Clifton were divorced, and Clifton had remarried.  
2 CONC Clifton died 2 Feb. 1942, at Berkeley, California, almost 2 weeks before 
2 CONC my sister and I were born.  Elizabeth, my Granny Pete, died 18 Dec. 1961, 
2 CONC at Santa Clara, Calif.  My aunt Margaret owned a home in Santa Clara for 
2 CONC years.  Margaret passed away 19 Jan 1994, at Hollister, Calif.  My uncle 
2 CONC Bud (Clifton Herbert) did, I think, in September of 1995.
2 CONT    Sara had a sister Mary Matilda Clark, b. 31 Oct. 1845.  She married 
2 CONC John Williams Streeter MD 2 Sept 1869, in Branch Co., Mich.I don't know 
2 CONC much more about her.  Dr. Streeter had a hospital in Chicago at one time.

2 CONC county, N.Y.
2 CONT October 22, 1851.   He was educated in the public schools, Monroe 
2 CONC Collegiate
2 CONT Institute, Hamilton College, and was graduated from Auburn Theological
2 CONT Seminary with the degree of B.D. in 1877.

2 CONT E-MAIL: Shortly after leaving the Seminary he received a call to Forest 
2 CONC church at
2 CONT Lyons Falls, N.Y., where he was ordained to the Gospel ministry and
2 CONT installed by the Presbytery of Utica.   After three years he resigned

2 CONT pastorate and accepted a call to the churches at Williamstown and West
2 CONT Camden, N.Y., where he labored seven years.   In December, 1889, he 
2 CONC accepted
2 CONT an invitation to supply the Presbyterian church at Melrose [in Rensselaer
2 CONT Co, N.Y.], and was installed as pastor in May, 1890, taking charge also 
2 CONC of
2 CONT the Presbyterian church at Tomhamock [sic; spelling is Tomhannock].

2 CONT E-MAIL: Mr. Van Wie's father, Henry, was born in the town of Guilderland,

2 CONT county, November 17, 1797.   He was well educated, an industrious and
2 CONT successful farmer.   He was twice married, first to Lydia Conger.   Seven
2 CONT children were born to them: Rosina E., Blendon M., Isadore [a/k/a Sabra
2 CONT Isadore], Mary C., Lionel E., Vrooman W., and Benedict G.   Mrs. Van Wie
2 CONT died April 1, 1848.   November 21, 1850, he married Mary D. Taylor, of 
2 CONC Cato,
2 CONT Cayuga county.   They had three children: Charles H., Jessie and Jennie.
2 CONT Henry Van Wie died April 2, 1876, and his widow, Mary d., October 12, 
2 CONC 1895.
2 CONT The ancestry of the family was Dutch, English and Scotch."

2 CONC Henry Van
2 CONT Wie which shows him as BORN 26 Nov 1797 and BAPTIZED 17 Dec 1797.  I'd
2 CONT believe this over the 17 Nov given in the later Rensselaer bio of his 
2 CONC son.
